This video was produced using Canva Pro editing features. Using a
script that was created from introductory notes I give in the classroom for Gothic literature
units, I recorded the voiceover in my phone using a default voice note app and uploaded it into
Canva. I then used stock image sources such as Pexels, Picryl and Unsplash as well as Canva's
offerings for the images throughout. I kept the visual captions short so as to not overload
viewers with too much information between text and audio. Editing features and transitions were
used to give the video dimension while moving between the clips, and music was added for
additional effect.
Videos of this style can be helpful in K12 as they take on multiple elements such as graphics
and sound to help students understand the elements of the genre they will be learning about. I
found introducing genres with their elements visualized helped students connect with the texts
within the unit better, as they had a standard to go off of when considering their elements. It
is my professional goal to partake more in creation of this type, where added sensory elements
can offer students deeper understanding and connection with their content.
